The Department of Bioethics (ZB) offers classes in medical ethics, bioethics, ethics, philosophy, and the philosophy of medicine at all faculties and fields of study at the Medical University of Lodz, as well as at the International Doctoral School and as part of postgraduate courses.

The research conducted by the Department of Bioethics staff encompasses philosophical and bioethical issues related to the beginning and end of human life, the philosophy of corporeality, the improvement of the human species, issues of transhumanism/posthumanism, the philosophy of medicine and psychiatry, the philosophy of justice, late medieval philosophy and ethics, the philosophy of biology, and the theory of argumentation in ethics.

The Department conducts research projects funded by external institutions (NCN, NAWA, FNP, and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education).

The Department's staff has organized and co-organized numerous national and international scientific conferences.

ZB employees are members of ethical and bioethical committees, active in national and international scientific societies, and cooperate with national and foreign research centers such as the University of Warsaw, Maynooth University, University of Vienna, and Alma Mater Studiorum-Università di Bologna.
